Facility Division · Design & PM Office / Joined since 2024
I was attending a career change event and looking for a company involved in spatial design when I came across UNIVA Japan, which specializes in office interior design. That caught my attention, and I decided to visit the company for a tour.
During my first visit, I was impressed by the friendly HR representative and the vibrant atmosphere filled with company events. I also liked that I’d have the opportunity to be involved in design work. What ultimately convinced me was an interview with my current manager, where he said, “In the future, I want to challenge myself with designs beyond just offices.” Combined with a passionate message from HR, that statement gave me the push I needed to join the company.
My academic background is in fashion. I used to work as an assistant store manager for a women’s apparel brand, and later at a construction company handling high-rise buildings. Given my unique background and lack of direct design experience, I joined as a design assistant. I attend client meetings, take notes, and deepen my understanding by researching unfamiliar topics as I go.
I use AutoCAD to create drawings of furniture layouts, ceilings, floors, and other interior elements. I also prepare proposal materials using PowerPoint and Excel to support interior material and design presentations.
Working closely with clients, I help ensure their requests are met and support the construction process from start to completion, aiming to improve their office environments.Internally, I also handle accounting tasks for the Facility Business Division.
I feel a great sense of fulfillment when I see clients excited and hopeful after viewing the proposals and plans I helped create.
It’s especially rewarding when my layout or material suggestions, like carpet designs, are accepted, take shape in front of me, and the client expresses satisfaction and gratitude. Seeing the results of our collaboration come to life is one of the most appealing aspects of the job.
Since I came from a completely different field with no architectural background, this path hasn’t been easy. My previous job was in a totally different industry, and now I’m facing the challenge of working in design with no prior experience. Right now, I’m just trying my best to handle each project one by one.
Looking ahead, I plan to retake a certification exam to deepen my knowledge and aim to become independent as a designer who can confidently propose design ideas. I’m committed to continuous learning and growth.
The office atmosphere varies—some days are so quiet you can only hear the sound of keyboards, while other days are filled with laughter from interactions among colleagues or with clients. It’s a well-balanced environment.
For those who prefer working quietly, there are private booths and meeting rooms available. However, some find absolute silence uncomfortable and hesitate to speak up. We’re still brainstorming ways to improve this and create an environment that works for everyone, but haven’t implemented a solution yet.
We aim to create a “better work environment” by continuing to take action and think proactively. We hope to make it an open, communicative workplace for future team members as well.
(We also occasionally enjoy lunch or drinks together!)
